“When the Camellia Blooms” prequel, “The Most Beautiful Black Horse” won the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards, beating “Baseball League” and “The World of the Married,” winning the Grand Prize and Best Screenplay, with Jang Hyuk winning the Best Actor award.

“When the Camellia Blooms” tells the love story of single mother Dongbae (Korean pronunciation of camellia) who runs a small pub in a small town and righteous patrol officer, Hwang Long-sik.

Scored 8.4 on Douban.

Not just a love story, this drama also includes suspense elements, with a hidden murderer in the town adding richness to the plot. Gong Hyo-jin’s unique fashionable style is also a highlight; the colorful character portrayal in the town is reminiscent of “When the Camellia Blooms,” and the male lead Long-sik’s character setting is a replica of Kwang-sik. Overall, it is a warm and down-to-earth Melo drama that fans of “When the Camellia Blooms” should not miss!
